GB 18401: China's Textile Testing
Textile products such as clothing, hats, gloves, socks, towels, bed linens, curtains, and upholstery are daily-use essentials that directly affect consumer health. To ensure these products are safe for human contact, China enforces GB 18401-2010: National General Safety Technical Code for Textile Products, a mandatory safety standard covering all textile products sold in the domestic market.
It sets limits on formaldehyde content, pH levels, colorfastness, banned aromatic amines, and odor, ensuring textiles are free from harmful substances.

ECQA provides testing services for a wide range of textile products, including:
- Apparel: Underwear, t-shirts, shirts, knitwear, dresses, trousers, cotton-padded jackets, down jackets, sleepwear, swimwear, hats, socks, gloves, etc.
- Home Textiles: Bedsheets, pillowcases, quilts, blankets, wall fabrics, curtains, towels, bath towels, and related soft furnishings.
Textile products are classified into three categories under GB 18401-2010:
- Category A: Baby products (infants aged 36 months and below)
- Category B: Products that come into direct contact with skin
- Category C: Products that do not come into direct contact with skin

Notes:
- Category A products must be final textile items that have undergone wet processing. The acceptable pH range is widened to 4.0–10.5.
- Category B products must be final textile items that require washing and dyeing.
- Products such as raw greige fabrics and traditional hand-dyed items (tie-dye, wax print) are exempt.
- Saliva resistance applies only to baby and toddler textiles.
- The limit value for carcinogenic aromatic amines is ≤ 20 mg/kg, as listed in the banned substances catalog.
